This slow cooker 6-ingredient chicken parmesan-style recipe is my kind of weeknight magic: you literally pour a jar of store-bought marinara and just five more simple ingredients over raw chicken breasts in the slow cooker, then let it do its thing while you handle the rest of your day. It has all the cozy, cheesy, red-sauce vibes of chicken parmesan, but without the breading, frying, or standing over the stove. I started making this on nights when I knew I’d walk in the door starving and wanting something that felt like a real dinner, not just a frozen pizza situation, and it quickly became one of those “never gets old” meals everyone is happy to see on repeat.
I usually spoon this saucy chicken over a big bowl of hot spaghetti or penne, then add a simple green salad and some garlic bread or buttered toast on the side. It’s also great over zucchini noodles or steamed broccoli if you’re trying to keep things lighter. For a more comforting, Midwest-style spread, serve it with buttered egg noodles and a side of green beans. Leftovers make an amazing chicken parmesan-style sandwich: pile the shredded chicken and extra sauce onto a toasted hoagie roll, top with more cheese, and broil until melty.
Slow Cooker 6-Ingredient Chicken Parmesan-Style
Skillet Chicken Parmesan - Craving Home Cooked
Ingredients
1 1/2 to 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 3–4 medium)
1 (24-ounce) jar store-bought marinara sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning (or dried oregano)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste)
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
Spray the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray or lightly grease it with a bit of oil to help with cleanup.
Lay the raw chicken breasts in a single layer on the bottom of the slow cooker. It’s okay if they overlap a little, but try to keep them mostly flat so they cook evenly.
In a medium bowl, pour in the jar of marinara sauce. Stir in the garlic powder, dried Italian seasoning, and kosher salt until everything is well combined.
Pour the seasoned marinara sauce evenly over the raw chicken breasts in the slow cooker, making sure all of the chicken is covered in sauce.
Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours, or on HIGH for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, until the chicken is cooked through and easily shreds with a fork.
